    Mail Order Chickens?

I now have 25 chickens and 2 ducks on the farm. You would think I would be content right? Not exactly. I loved the chickens I had but I was still wanting more. I had a few breeds that I particularly wanted; Polish and Silkies. I had also just discovered a beautiful breed called Calico Princess. During this time was when the Blue Andalusian also became an interest for my flock. The problem began to arise with not being able to get these birds at stores like TSC. We were told that we could order the birds and get the mix we wanted through mail order. I thought mail order…

Raising Baby Ducks on the Farm

I have now raised two separate batches of baby chickens. I decided it was time to take on something new. Lots of baby ducks had been showing up at my local TSC. Ducks are fun and blend well with chickens. Many farms have both, so I decided next up was raising baby ducks on the farm. Bringing Home the Quackers Ducks had been in stores approximately a week. There was a chance that all the ducks might already have sold. July 29, 2019 my mom, son and I made a late evening stop by TSC to take a look. There was a small selection still available, all one breed. Not…

Introducing New Chickens to Your Flock

Fast forward to April of 2019. We had decided that we would like another breed or two of chickens to add to the farm. We soon discovered a nearby store was having their chick days. Customers placed orders for the breed, number, and sex of baby chick they wanted. I thought this sounded awesome! I would be able to order exactly what I wanted! We decided on 6 Easter Eggers and 6 Brown Leghorn. Order placed, now the wait was on until April 17th. Little did we know the challenges about to ensue, from placing an order to introducing new chickens to our flock. The Day Finally Arrives On April…

Raising four Katahdin Sheep that started it all

Since you have discovered this whole adventure started with 4 little hairballs better known as Katahdin sheep, let me take you from the beginning to present day. My first sheep was and still is better known as Old Mama (one of my all time favorite ewes), Jane ( a bit snobbish) and as bad as I hate to say it a lady whom I had named but have since forgotten what it was, and last but not least Dodge the ram. Original name huh. The 3 ladies are still a part of Triple M Farm while Dodge after bearing many beautiful babies was taken to slaughter. Let’s face it folks…

Meet Krypto the Guard Dog & Learn Why He Is Not Just a Pet

Let’s go back a few years and catch up to present day… My love of the farm life started out with little white balls of hair, yes I said hair, that is better known as the Katahdin sheep. Get sheep they said, they are easy they said. Well I don’t know about calling them easy but they are for certain worth the work. My adventure started with only 3 ewes (female sheep) and a single ram (male sheep). Soon we decided to add a part Great Pyrenees and part Komondor guard dog into the mix. The dog is known as Kryptonite (Krypto for short). He loves his humans and his sheep.…

    A Journey into Farming

Hello! Welcome to the farm. Hello, Farmer Rhonda here. If you have not checked out my about me section you should stop by there for a quick introduction into who I am. Then this post will continue the story from there. So exactly how did I become a farmer from a 8 – 4:30 office assistant making $12 an hour?  Well just let me tell you that is a story in and of itself!  Stepping out of comfort and into peace Finally mustering up the courage to leave my job as an administrative office assistant after almost 6 years was sure no easy task. It was stable employment, had helped…
